Pedestrian dies after being involved in a crash

A driver suspected of causing a deadly accident while intoxicated is currently in police custody. The victim was apparently on her way to work when she was involved in a crash that ultimately led to her death. California police claim that the driver was under the influence of illegal drugs at the time of the incident, an allegation that could land him in jail for a decade.

The victim was a 64-year-old woman who was crossing the street to one of the Disney company's headquarters, where she was employed in the legal department. As she crossed, she was struck by the oncoming vehicle. Witnesses report that the collision with the pedestrian was not enough to cause the car to stop, and the driver went on to strike three vehicles before it finally stopped.

The backbone of your civil claim after suffering a back injury

Back injuries are some of the most common injuries suffered in car accidents. While these range in complexity and severity, there are cases in which an accident victim could suffer a life-altering injury to his or her back. Spinal cord injuries can be remarkably complex, but they are always serious and always require specialized care.

Approximately 36 percent of all spinal cord injuries are the result of car accidents. Victims can take months to recover, and for many, restoring full function is never possible. If you or a loved one suffered a spinal cord injury as the result of an accident caused by the reckless or negligent actions of another California driver, you do not have to deal with the complex aftermath alone.

Premises liability: 2 lawsuits filed by husband of actress

Accidents can occur anywhere in California, causing injury to residents. Many occur at businesses or other public places. Unsafe conditions or  hazardous environments may be present at these locations, resulting in harm to customers, employees or passersby. The companies may face claims for financial responsibility for injuries occurring at their facilities. A man filed premises liability lawsuits against two businesses for falls that occurred on separate occasions.

The 49-year-old man, husband of a former cast member of the television show "Baywatch," initially fell in Dec. 2016. He asserts that the fall occurred when he slipped on a puddle of water in a grocery store. It is claimed that the store should have warned customers and taken action to remove the water.

Motor vehicle accidents involving pedestrians are up in state

California is a beautiful state, with numerous roads and highways alongside some stunningly scenic sites. These roads are enjoyed daily by motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. While vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and people often share the roadways without incident, there are times when unfortunate incidents occur. Motor vehicle accidents involving pedestrians are particularly dangerous. Pedestrian safety is a serious issue, particularly in communities where walking is encouraged.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that yearly pedestrian fatalities were up from the previous reported year. This represented one of only a few groups that experienced increases in fatalities. Walkers often claim that traffic signals are of little help at intersections where pedestrians are still in the middle of the road when the light changes.

4 injured in car accident involving suspected drunk driver

Thousands of motorists travel on California roads and highways every day. The majority of them reach their destinations safely without incident. However, traffic accidents frequently occur when speed and alcohol are factors. Four travelers were recently injured in a car accident after a suspected drunk driver crashed into their vehicle.

A sport utility vehicle was driving on a highway in San Diego when it was struck by a speeding car, according to police reports. After the crash, the SUV was stranded on the off-ramp of the highway. The car stayed on the exit ramp but soon crashed into a guardrail. Emergency personnel had to extricate the driver of the car, a 38-year-old San Diego man, who was transported to a nearby medical center with moderate injuries. Firefighters also rescued a dog they found in a crate in the car.

Extra caution needed at intersections, ramps and bike lanes

Whether you're part of the daily California commute traffic or merely venture out on highways from time to time, it's no secret that any time you get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle (or travel as a passenger or pedestrian for that matter) you're at risk for a collision. In recent years, increased speed limits and new distractions (i.e. hand-held electronic devices) have upped the average motorist's chances of getting into an accident.

You're likely to be even more at risk in certain places, such as intersections, bicycle lanes and ramps leading on or off the road. In fact, intersections are said to be some of the most dangerous roadway areas in existence. By remaining alert and practicing safe driving habits, you may be able to avoid a problem.

Debilitating injuries often follow slip-and-fall accidents

In their own homes, most California residents are able to take steps to reduce the risk of suffering an accident. Serious and even debilitating injuries can occur from things like falls in the shower, so it's no surprise that people take precautions. When staying in a hotel or motel, though, these precautions are not something over which individuals have the same degree of control, nor should they have to, as it is the responsibility of such businesses to safeguard their premises for those lawfully on them.

In another state, a man has recently filed a lawsuit against a hospitality chain, claiming that the business failed to do just that. The man was a guest at a Hampton Inn. The suit alleges that a negligently maintained shower during his stay caused him to slip and fall, resulting in bodily injury.

Have you ever thought about how brain injuries are classified?

Not many people do until they experience a traumatic brain injury and they await a diagnosis and prognosis from a doctor. You likely already understand that any impact to your brain could cause you potential problems in the future, and that your chances of recovery are greater if doctors do not consider the injury severe.

That doesn't mean that you won't suffer long-term repercussions from even a mild injury to your brain, but you may be better able to live with some health consequences over others. Those consequences may require you to make substantial changes to how you live and work, which could greatly influence your financial future. If someone else bears the responsibility for your injuries, you may be able to do something about it.

Traffic accident claims life of woman in Murrieta

The majority of California drivers have likely exceeded the speed limit at some point while behind the wheel. In many cases, speeding drivers don't create problems on the roadways. However, speeding can lead to traffic accidents with damage to vehicles or injury to drivers and passengers. A Murrieta woman died after a recent crash where speeding is suspected.

According to officers from the Murrieta Police Department, a woman was a driving her car one morning near a local intersection. A sport utility vehicle rear-ended her car and caused it to run onto the sidewalk. The SUV rolled onto its side into the intersection following the impact.

Traffic accident claims lives of 2 adults, 2 children

Having a car overheat is a common problem on California highways. Drivers often pull over to the side of the highway to allow time for the car to cool down. As one driver was dealing with this issue recently, the situation turned to tragedy after a traffic accident.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol report that a woman had stopped her car after it had overheated. She and a female passenger had gotten out of the vehicle to assess the car. Two children who were also riding with her remained in the vehicle. A man driving a pickup truck had also stopped to help the woman. While they were looking at the overheated car, another truck crashed into it.
